Happy Summer!

A new menu for summer on the website! Yay! Some nice summer treats, all made with the best the British summer has to offer. Have a look and see what inspires you. If you don't see what you are looking for, please drop us an email we are happy to make bespoke flavours at no extra charge.
It's been really busy here at Bittersweet HQ, we are getting into the swing of things for summer and making the most of the sunshine. Outside tea parties and birthday picnics being a highlight already. Cupcakes really are so great for parties.. that is the ones I am not eating myself! Here are a few that have made their way to London's summer tables.

These are my current obsession... caramel cake with caramel buttercream, caramel sauce and sea salt caramel fudge. I like caramel, can you tell? ;-)

Dark chocolate cake with vanilla coconut icing. Better than a Bounty bar any day...

And finally very vanilla bean cupcakes with dark chocolate truffle icing. Heaven!

Happy summer!

Happy Spring! Well, sort of...

The weather has been really great over the past few weeks, and then... it packs up just in time for the long weekend. The Easter weekend was a bit of a bust weather wise, but is there any better excuse to sit in and drink lots of tea and eat cake? I certainly don't think so...
There has been a lot happening the the Bittersweet world, even some very secret squirrel plans! I will give you more information as things progress but am feeling really excited and positive that 2009 is going to be a great year for cake making and more importantly, cake eating! Yes, the worlds finances are falling apart and it's a very scary time for so many...but we still need to live for a today and be happy, even for just a few moments of everyday.

How about a nice slice of (virtual) cake and a cup of tea? See, don't you feel better already?

So many Birthdays in March and April! Here are a few of the yummys we delivered to comfort, I mean celebrate, with.

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate cakes, this one with chopped chocolate covered almonds on top. So good.

Tart Lemon Drizzle Cakes

And for a very special birthday, we made little 4 inch square boxes with 4 mini goodies to be taken home after the birthday lunch. Very cute don't you think? I don't know why but I love anything in miniature...

Hope you are having a sweet start to your Spring! The new menu will be up this week, so check back soon.

Knitting Makes Me Hungry

So it's been another busy week here at Bittersweet!
Firstly, last Sunday was Bittersweet Sunday at Socktopus which was a huge success! There was a huge turnout and a great time was had by all. As knitting and gossiping is hungry work, all the cookies, cakes and cinnamon rolls were snapped up over the course of a lovely afternoon.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chewy Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Mini Cinnamon Rolls with Vanilla Cream Cheese Icing and Tart Lemon Drizzle Cupcakes

And quite interestingly, vegan cinnamon rolls for the lovely Emma
I am so happy with the way these turned out!

Dark Chocolate Truffle Cupcakes
and Chocolate Truffle Birthday cakes for a couple of chocoholic birthday boys.

Brrrr! I need some cake!

It's been a really chilly start to 2009! We have had record amounts of snow and low temperatures here in London but also people have been dropping their new year's resolutions in record time as well! Which is great for the cake bakers... we love naughty people who like a bit of nice cake to warm themselves up!

Classic Coconut Cake with toasted coconut frosting

Chocolate cupcakes with pink icing for Wig Out!, raising money for breast cancer research.

And more fun leaving do cakes, don't ask me what it all means....

Mocha Cake with Espresso Buttercream! Really, a coffee addicts dream come true.
Stay warm out there!

Cupcake Decorating Party!

Picture 60 naked cupcakes, bowls of multi-coloured icings, pots of every sort of sprinkle, glitter and icing flowers imaginable and a bunch of shrieking girls making the most adorable cupcakes a 9 year old can come up with. The mums especially loved taking home boxes of the cupcakes the girls didn't eat!

So much fun even the 'grown up' girls got into the act!

Masterpieces :-)

All flavours and colours of icing.
A very happy birthday girl indeed!

If you have a bunch of girls (of any age really) who like cake
and also like to decorate things, a cupcake decorating party is the way to go.

A Summary of Christmas Baking

Phew! What an exciting couple of weeks it's been! So many deliveries to so many cake lovers!

I have finally just been able to come out from the kitchen, out of the haze of flour and buttercream, on this Christmas night to tell you all about the magnificent amount of baking that has been happening over the last few weeks here at Bittersweet HQ.

We have been really busy making all sorts of magical Christmas goodies, which hopefully by now have brought lots of warmth and happiness to all the lucky recipients of the many gifts and birthday cakes we have sent out into the world!

There is so much to tell, so for now I will give you a photographic tour of some of what we have been cooking up...

Christmas Spice Dark Chocolate Truffles

Carrot and Coconut Cupcakes for hungry Ice Skaters

How cute are the decorations??

Triple Chocolate Brownies... 9 of the 400 we baked this week!

Chocolate Truffle Cupcakes with Vanilla Icing. Only 4 out of the 600 hundred we baked this week....

Special Happy Birthday Cupcakes for a very special company

Sticky Toffee Birthday Cake with Sea Salt Caramel Fudge. Truly decadent.

Big boxes for a big hearted company, my old friends Collective.
Some of the coolest and most amazing people you will ever meet.

Who happen to really like nice cupcakes!
Including devastatingly good gluten-free/wheat-free cakes!

Deep, golden, buttery Pecan Pie. Warm, nutty, toffee-licious.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
Best wishes for a sweet 2009,
Bittersweet Bakers

Just Brilliant

We went to see Eddie Izzard in the west end last night and I picked up this t-shirt. I am not usually a fan t-shirt sort of person, but not only do I love this sketch (watch it on You Tube if you haven't seen it before) but Cake or Death pretty much sums up how I feel about eating good food. What is the point of life if you don't eat something amazing every single day?
